An overview and evolution of the MLA Standard

The Modern Language Association (MLA) citation style has been a standard for academic writing in the humanities since 1931. Over the years, it has evolved to simplify referencing and improve consistency.

The 8th edition (2016) introduced the core elements template, as shown in the image to the right, to streamline the citation process.

The MLA Handbook is now at the 9th edition and a print copy of the manual is avaialble for on-site consultation in the library.

What’s in the Latest MLA Handbook? 

Chapter 5 provides a detailed guidance on creating a works cited list, including examples for different types of source. 

Chapter 6 Covers in-text citations (both in prose & parenthetical citations) and how to link them correctly to your works cited entries.
